Album Notes:

"Full Moon Night" was recorded at OBT studios the Summer and Fall of 2000 with the finishing touches being done Fall 2002. The album was recorded as 3-piece right on the footsteps of "Written In Rope," and represents our most personal collection of songs since the 1996 release, "Saginaw Sweetheart." The album was recorded and co-produced by Jeff's brother Jon Tranberry.

Guests include longtime AC collaborator, Matt Marohl, on pedal steel,; Jeff Sass on triumphant timpani and Melissa Gaul on cello. Dan Brian arranged and recorded the orchestration at his studio in Utah.

It also features a cover of Smattering's "All For Show," written by Matt Olson. Matt heard us play the song at the State Fair, liked it so much he actually wept, and offered to let us record it for our next album, saying he had never seen any one slow-dance to his songs. With the blessing of the Master, we had to record it.

"That Man Of Mine" was written for Leeann Pankow, who was murdered by her boyfriend. Quillan worked with her in Saint Louis Park and was stunned by the news of her death and her boyfriend/ killer's suicide.

The cover art was done by Jeff, and features skylines of the Belle Plain Country Club Golf Course in Belle Plain, IA.

Lyrics:

The Prize Storm clouds roll in and they covered up the sun / But I still could see everything that I didn’t want to see / So I said to those clouds, “Please blot out everything” / But it didn’t listen to me / I still could see you holding hands with another man / Right before my eyes / That ain’t the nicest thing to do at all / You don’t win the prize / Rain starts to fall and it wash away the streets / But I still could see everything that I didn’t want to see / So I said to the rain, “Please drown everything” / But it didn’t listen to me / I still could see you holding hands with another man / Right before my eyes / That ain’t how you win at all / You don’t win the prize / Because this ain’t a game / And if you’re playing a game / You best know that I’m not playing it with you / I don’t want you around / Cuz it still hurts when you do those things to hurt me all the time / Sun came back and it burned off all the clouds / Then I could see everything that I didn’t want to see / So I said to the sun, “Please burn up everything” / But it did not listen to me / Cuz I still could see you holding hands with another man / Right before my eyes / That ain’t the nicest thing to do at all / You don’t win the prize / There ain’t no resolution to this song / But just as time passes along / Maybe I’ll feel all right / But it still hurts when you do those things to hurt me all the time Q: vocals, acoustic guitar M: electric guitar, vocals J: bass Matt Marohl: pedal steel

Overnight Overnight, I saw my whole world die / Sun came up but wouldn't even shine / You took off without so much as bye-bye / I was too in shock to even cry / And I wish I could have talked you into staying by my side / But you said you would only stay if you could be a bride / All up in white, and overnight / Over time, I may learn to accept / The fact that you ain't coming back again / But tonight, that news just don't sit right / I know my mood won't brighten overnight / And I wish I could have talked you into staying by my side / But you said you would only stay if you could be a bride / And I saw my whole world dying as the moon the was coming down / It's over now, and overnight M: electric guitar, vocals Q: vocals, acoustic guitar J: bass

Lets Do It Together There’s a change in the atmosphere that’s surrounding me / I don’t know where it’s coming from cuz it’s not plain to see / But I know it’s changing me cuz I don’t feel the same / I wonder if you feel it too or if you are to blame / So if you think that you feel it too / And it’s got in your head / Let’s do it together and out this thing to bed / Well things have started shifting ‘round and now there’s different light / You are looking real good where before you looked alright / I must say my thinking’s changed when it comes to you / I think on you most all the time, I have to say it’s true / So if you think that you feel it too / and it’s got in your head / Let’s do it together and put this thing to bed / The air becomes hard to breathe / When you are standing close to me / The air is thick before my eyes / When you are standing by my side / There’s a change in the atmosphere surrounding you and me / We are growing closer now and that is nice to see / I see that it’s changing you and I won’t make a fuss / Just don’t go and be afraid, these things they don’t hurt much / So if you think that you feel it too / And it’s got in your head / Let’s do it together and put this thing to bed Q: vocals, acoustic guitar M: electric guitar, vocals J: bass

That's The Way It Had To Go We were laughin' at a joke that someone told / Kept on laughin' after the joke had gotten old / We were sweethearts but our love could never grow / That's the way it had to go / I was on you like a vulture in the sky / hoverin' waitin' for your love to die / we were lovebirds but our love could never fly / That's the way it had to go / That's the way it had to go / I was lost and I was lonely again / 'Cause a dream was all I had / To wake up was to be sad / But I was happy just to have you as a friend / We were a couple minus the kissin' / that was about the only thing missin' / But we were headed in that direction / That's at least what I was wishin' / That's the way it had to go / I was lost and I was lonely again / 'Cause to be with you so much / And yet be without your touch was makin' it hard to be your friend / But I was happy just to have you as a friend / But I was gettin' tired of being just your friend M: electric guitar, vocals Q: vocals, acoustic guitar J: bass

Bird On The Wing I spent all my time, / doing everything but you / So when you say that you’re leavin' / I know that it's true / It's useless to say that I've tried / ‘cuz, that would be only lies / You'd think that I'd learn / because, I've done this before / I get a wonderful woman / and it's her I ignore / It's nothing that's wrong with you girl / It's just that I live in my own world / Like water through my fingers, / sand through the hourglass / light through an aperture, / you too will pass from my life like a bird on the wing / for the stupid things I'm doing / now that your gone / I've got time on my hands / and, all those things I was doing / seem nowhere as grand / Time's dragging on for forever / And now I don't feel I'm so clever / Like water through my fingers, / sand through the hourglass / light through an aperture, / you too will pass from my life like a bird on the wing / for the stupid things I'm doing / Times dragging on / now that your gone / I'll sing a song / hope it won't be too long / Like water through my fingers, / sand through the hourglass / light through an aperture, / you too will pass from my life like a bird on the wing / for the stupid things I'm doing / Like water through my fingers, / sand through the hourglass / light through an aperture, / you too will pass from my life like a bird on the wing / for the stupid things I'm doing Q: vocals, acoustic guitar M: electric guitar, vocals J: bass Matt Marohl: Pedal Steel

Scary Slumber After drinkin’ all day / just couldn’t stay / I couldn’t stand without you / ‘Cause I needed a break / just couldn’t take / Any more time without your love / So I said to the ceiling above, / “Come and get me now.” / But I lie here all night / feelin’ alright / Watchin’ a TV station / Showin’ all of its show / nobody knows / What’s on at 3am but me / And maybe the guy on the screen / Lookin’ down on me. / I don’t believe in anything to believe in / But I wanna try / ‘Cause I lost some sleep in a scary slumber / Dreamin’ of you / When the sun catches up / I’m on the rug / Starin’ up at the ceiling / Thinkin’ each / little square / knows that I’m there / But doesn’t care how I’m feelin’ / So I said the guy on the screen, / “Come and get me now.” / I don’t believe in anything to believe in / But I wanna try / ‘Cause I lost some sleep in a scary slumber / Dreamin’ of you M: vocals, electric guitar Q: acoustic guitar, vocals J: bass

That Man Of Mine Sweep the floor, take out the trash / Lock the door, got floors to wax / Here he comes, he’s right on time / That man of mine / Stack the chairs, he’s pitching in / He’s always there, works smiling / He’s quite a man, helps all the time / That man of mine / And everybody said that they saw him / And no one said that he looked like a nice man / They all said he came around a lot, maybe too much / For Leeann / But that smile is fading / I need some time alone / But he comes too often / Is someone in my home? / Fall to the floor, knife in the trash / Crawl towards the door, slip on the wax / There he goes for the last time / That man of mine / There he goes, sinks the third time / That man of mine Q: vocals, acoustic guitar M: electric guitar, vocals J: bass

All For Show Landslides just seem natural to me / Able to believe what I can't see / Lookin' for the halfway 4x / Afterthoughts seem useless to me now / Maybe if I'm slow, I will never know / Maybe if I'm quick, I am all for show / I am all for show 9x M: vocals, banjo Q: vocals, acoustic guitar J: bass

New Clothes When you come to my house leave your baggage out behind you / I’ve got some new clothes to wear and I’ll share them with you / You say you don’t want to fight, well, take off them clothes that he got you / We’ll do better just us two / I’m just another man on the rebound / That’s what your friends all say / I’m gonna give you another disclaimer / So watch all those things I say / When you come to my house don’t look back when you enter / I’ve got some new clothes to wear and I’ll share them with you / You want to make love tonight, well, take off those clothes that you’re wearing / They’ll just come between me and you / I’m just another man on the rebound / That’s what your friends all say / I’m gonna give you another disclaimer / So watch all those things I say / When you come to my house there’ll be new clothes to wear / When you come to my house don’t worry about the future / I’ve got some new clothed to wear and I’ll share them with you / You say that you want to talk about all of the ones before now / Well, honey, I’d be happy to share with you / When you come to my house there’ll be new clothes to wear Q: vocals, acoustic guitar M: electric guitar, vocals J: bass

Firecracker Fling When the honeymoon is over / a lot of folks will bail / and leave their lovers, alone on a dark trail / Cuz it's hard to keep the fireworks / of love exploding / and easier to set off firecracker flings / Well there'll be nights / when it just seems like / the spark of the romance fizzle / but breakin' that trust / and actin' on lust / won't make that old steak sizzle / Every couple goes through trouble / it ain't just you and yours / and foolin' around / all over town / will lead to slammin' doors / Oh, they burn bright / but only for a night / and they go bang, bang, bang / wreckin' everything M: vocals, electric guitar, Q: acoustic guitar, vocals J: bass Matt Marohl: pedal steel

Cold Thin Air I asked you where your heart was / You said, “In that cupboard over there” / But when I looked the only thing I found / Was the cold thin air / You laughed at me, said I was foolish / How could I buy such a thing? / I asked you where your heart was / You said in that fire over there / But when I looked the only thing I found / Was the cold thin air / You laughed at me, said I was foolish / How could I buy such a thing? / The only way to find your heart / Was with a diamond ring / I put flowers all those places / I put flowers at your feet / I spoke words from deep in my heart / But they found no heart to meet / I asked you where your heart was / Not under stone or in a cupboard bare / You said, “You’ll find it in the churchyard / “in the cold thin air” / I laughed at myself, I was so foolish / I knew I’d never find it there / Because, my girl, there just ain’t no heart / In the cold thin air Q: vocals, acoustic guitar M: banjo, vocals J: bass

The last, great Saturday The last, great Saturday arrives / And it claims the golden prize / The day is beautiful and I am so strong and young / The sun won’t ever shine like this for anyone / The last, great Saturday has come / Let’s squeeze out every last freedom / Tomorrow bells ring out and we will be trapped inside / And all my friends will change and too late I will realize / That the last, great Saturday is here / Awash in Autumn leaves and fear / The Summer tan will fade from skin like falling leaves / As we pile on sweaters and snow blankets the trees / So pile all of my friends in the car / And we’ll drive forever or at least as far / As five dollars can take us / The last, great Saturday has passed / Too late we see it can not last / Tomorrow when we wake up orange and red will fall / So let’s head for the sunset and forget to call / So pile all of my friends in the car / And we’ll drive forever or at least as far / As five dollars can take us / That won’t be very far / But it’s now or never so get in the car / As five dollars can take / There’s a chill in the air / And, my dear, did you just shiver? Q: vocals, acoustic guitar M: electric guitar J: bass Matt Marohl: pedal steel Jeff Sass: timpani Melissa Gaul: cello Orchestration arranged and recorded by Dan Brian
